Moog’s Aircraft Group is looking for a Cost Engineer in either our East Aurora, NY or Torrance, CA location.  Moog’s Cost Engineers support and coordinate the efforts of the cost estimating team by gathering and correlating their inputs in the preparation of new business proposals.  Analyze and assemble historical cost data for follow on business proposals. You will also translate data into proposal cost data which you analyze from a reasonability standpoint for use in arriving at pricing decisions. You must have the ability to work to a successful conclusion of the estimating effort within very critical time constraints and then communicate results of these efforts clearly and objectively to the members of the pricing committee.

Moog Aircraft Group operates in a very complex segment of the Aerospace Industry which is highly competitive, requiring extremely competent and accurate cost proposals.  The industry is controlled by rigid government regulations which include Cost Accounting Standards, US Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), TINA, UK Defense Conditions (DEFCON) and various European Regulations.  Having a thorough knowledge of these regulations and fostering a collaborative and compliant environment within the various Cost Estimating Groups requires diligent attention to purpose. This role also requires the ability to deal with diverse personalities and cultures within the Moog global organization, customer representatives and various government agencies to assure achievement of Group objectives in profitability and compliance.  You must continue to maintain and promote strong customer relationships while dealing in the sometimes adversarial environment of contract price negotiations.

Moog’s Cost Engineers collect, process, and disseminate cost data between 10 or more pricing team members responsible for the various departments involved in new program development.  In this role you report to the Supervisor/Manager Cost and Pricing, Proposal Manager and Senior Management responsible for final pricing decisions. You will process over 50 major proposals ranging from $150,000 to $25,000,000 annually, and independently price over 1,000 spare and component parts / assemblies annually.

Your Accountabilities in this role include:

  • Adhering to the cost estimating system to achieve accurate accounts of product and program costs estimates while assuring compliance with all US government FAR/DFAR, TINA and other applicable regulations.
  • As part of the proposal pricing decision, communicate the “financial point of view” (including the cost estimate itself) in the Pricing Meeting which, along with the ‘sales point of view,” will yield the most beneficial pricing decision for the Group.
  • Support customer and government audits of Moog’s proposed cost with the objective of securing the most favorable opinion of those costs.
  • Review and report on detailed customer counteroffers and accurately prepare and communicate Moog’s offers during negotiations with our customers while projecting the fairness and reasonability of our positions.
  • Instill confidence (on the part of government, customer auditors and management) in the Moog accounting and cost estimating system through competent handling of personal interactions and the thorough preparation of cost substantiation data.

Here's what you'll need to be considered for this exciting opportunity:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a financial and / or engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an engineering, operations, or financial discipline.
  • MS Excel experience, preferred.
  • This job requires access to US export-controlled information.
