The Space sector within the Moog Space and Defense Group is projecting significant growth driven by high levels of U.S. Department of Defense spending and the thirst for human exploration.  Additionally, the Western New York Space business has recently reorganized into three Business Units (BUs): Actuation & Avionics, Fluid Controls and Engines. Each BU has its own objectives, goals, and products and is led by a Business Unit General Manager.  This reorganization has resulted in an opening for a Quality Manager for the Engines BU.  This BU supplies rocket engines and propulsion systems for a variety of spacecraft, launch vehicle and strategic defense missions. The Quality Manager, Engines provides leadership and implements the vision of a systemic process-based approach integrating quality related processes.  This role also ensures the consistent application of data driven decision making and employing and supporting continuous improvement across the BU when necessary.

 

 

To be considered for the Quality Manager, Engines role, here’s what you’ll need to bring with you:

 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or business
  • Eight years of related experience of which at least 5 years’ experience are as a manager in a leadership role
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment including experience with AS9100 or other similar quality management system standards
  • Proven track record of leading change initiatives 
  • Proven capabilities implementing a Lean Management System to ensure changes are sustainable and drive a continuous improvement culture in the business unit 
  • Significant experience in connecting the core processes with the appropriate systems, tools, and metrics to ensure compliance and effectiveness
  • Demonstrated ability as a power user of quality management and data analytical software (TipQA, Power BI, Spotfire, Visio, Minitab, etc)
  • Experience in budgeting and cost control management
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and facilitate continuous improvement activities and events
  • Ability to obtain an active US Government security clearance requiring U.S. citizenship

 

 

As a Quality Manager, you will:

 

  • Lead, manage and develop a group of 5-10 Quality professionals.
  • Be a collaborative member of the BU leadership team that develops and executes the strategies and priorities for the BU.
  • Develop strategy to simplify, improve and integrate the core quality systems and processes to ensure customer and business objectives are met.
  • Systemically align quality systems and process improvement initiatives in support of BU, Division and A&D strategies.
  • Develop measures to ensure quality processes are effective and meeting customer and business objectives.
  • Ensure quality solutions and initiatives are fully integrated with the BU’s business objectives, priorities, strategies, and mission.
  • Own and manage department budget, ensuring Quality is actively contributing towards the Engines BU financial commitments.
  • Ensure business processes are aligned to AS9100 standards and drives continuous improvement to processes on behalf of the BU.
  • Be a SIOP supply owner that ensures appropriate engineering resources are available to meet resource demands from proposals, firm work, IR&D and indirect efforts.
  • Develop meaningful relationships with customers, industry leaders and other Space and Defense peers to stay abreast of industry needs, trends and best practices.

Salary Range:

The base pay range for this opportunity is $111,009.60 - $197,704.00 per year.  The base salary range represents the low and high end of the Moog salary range for this position in the given work location. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including location, experience, and performance. The range(s) listed is just one component of Moog's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, employee stock purchase plan, an open paid time off policy, competitive 401K plan with enhanced matching program, and many region-specific benefits.
