Moog Inc designs and manufactures high-end technical components on a global scale. Some of the amazing products we produce include actuators, slip rings, fiber optic rotary joints, CT Scans, medical devices, and countless other products. The work we do matters here in Blacksburg, VA, as does every single person who works with us. We are hiring an electric motor design engineer to join our growing product development team.  As part of our design engineering group, you will be developing custom motors and electro-magnetic sensors for aerospace and military applications.  You will be solving challenging problems and creating innovative solutions to our customers’ toughest requirements.  You will be involved in the complete life cycle of the product, from proposal through prototype design and build, qualification testing, and into production.

Here's what you’ll be working on day to day:

  • Review customer specifications and develop a design approach to meet the requirements, supporting the business development group with technical proposals.

  • Optimize design using Speed or Ansys FEA design tools; work with designers to create solid model and detailed prints.

  • Conduct both internal and external design reviews.

  • Support the model shop during prototype building and qualification testing.

  • Prepare drawing package for final production release.

  • Support technical questions from customers.

  • Support innovation in both design and manufacturing techniques.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work in a team environment are required.

  • Ability to manage various tasks through development and prototype phase with attention to detail to assure schedules are met.

  • Must be able to build and maintain effective relationships with team members to complete design, analysis, and program tasks.

  • Must have strong analytical and problem solving skills, including root cause determination and corrective action.

  • This position requires access to United States Export Controlled information.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two to five years of experience in motor design or related field desired.

  • Experience with Speed, Ansys Maxwell, or other motor design tools desired.
