Material & Process Engineer III – Torrance, California

 

The Level III Engineer performs M&PE engineering tasks of moderate/high scope and complexity, focusing on applying the language and basic principles of MP&E, supporting internal Moog global customer needs, and improving Moog product materials, analytical approaches, and special processing.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Monitor heat treatment operations to ensure compliance with internal procedures and customer requirements.
  • Provide guidance to thermal processing shop personnel to meet requirements and specifications and maintain/create training and procedures on heat treatment and metallurgical related processes.
  • Provide the technical expertise to disposition any production non-conformances related to the heat treat process.
  • Develop and coordinate initiatives and activities to improve Moog product materials, analytical approaches, and special processing to meet the needs for global customers.
  • Research and implement new heat treatment technologies for cost savings and process improvements.

· Development of technical training program for materials, processes, and analytical interpretation to assist the Operating Groups in meeting their objectives.

  • Support long term, multi-site, process development and implementation of operating group projects. Propose, recommend and guide the implementation of process equipment solutions (typically less than $3M US) for operating groups.
  • Assist with the recruitment, motivation, training, and development of staff to maintain an effective workforce capable of meeting M&PE objectives.

 

Basic Qualifications:

 

·        BS with 6 years related experience or MS with 4 years related experience in one of the following fields: Materials/Metallurgy, Industrial and Mechanical with extensive knowledge on steel heat treatment processes and equipment.

·        Familiarity or experience with either chemical and heat treatment NADCAP compliance and with AMS 2750 pyrometry requirements and compliance.

·        Must have a strong fundamental knowledge of metallurgy and microstructures and familiar with material characterization and failure analysis techniques.

·        Preferable industry experience with vacuum furnaces, and vacuum carburizing processing plus machine controls and instrumentation.

·        Capable of performing metallurgical testing. 

·        Experience interfacing with engineering, manufacturing, and production personnel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with heat treatment 
  • Prior experience in the Aerospace field 

The base pay range for this opportunity is $79,955. - $147,617. per year.  The base salary range represents the low and high end of the Moog salary range for this position in the given work location. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including location, experience, and performance. The range(s) listed is just one component of Moog's total compensation package for employees. You will have the option of a 9/80 work schedule in Torrance, CA.
