Moog’s Space and Defense Group’s primary mission is to Equip Those Who Defend Freedom and Explore the Universe.    Having a world-class Contracts organization is an essential requirement and strategic priority for the Space and Defense Group and plays a critical role in the success of the business. We have an immediate need for a Director of Contracts, leading the global Space and Defense division contracts organization.

Job Summary:

  • Responsible for setting the vision for and leading the contracts function to provide the Space and Defense divisions strategic contract direction and support across the entire contract life cycle.
  • Mitigate Space and Defense Divisional risks by identifying potential contractual, performance and business environment risks and collaborating with program management, legal counsel, operations, engineering, and other Moog functional organizations to develop contractual language, programmatic strategies, and processes/policies to manage these risks.
  • Contribute to the Space and the Defense Division growth by proposing innovative bid and program execution strategies; championing change management; pursuing customer cash collections; preserving Moog margins by aggressively defending against customer claims; supporting acquisitions and applying Lean principles to reduce costs/waste by improving efficiency.

To be considered for the Director of Contracts role, here’s what you’ll need to bring with you:

  • Bachelor’s degree and twelve (12) years of aerospace & defense/ government contracting experience, strong interpersonal, management, writing, presentation and negotiating skills.  Lean and/or Six Sigma training is highly desirable.
  • The ability to effectively interact with both internal and external customers, and the willingness to travel, is paramount.

As a Director of Contracts, you will:

  1. Lead the organization responsible for ensuring Space and Defense Divisions, within the Space and Defense Group, contractual compliance, requirements, and commitments through all program phases, beginning with pre-award activities, and continuing through product development, production, and aftermarket support. Ensuring extensive, thorough, and robust contract and legal principles are applied with extreme detail and clarity to protect the interest of the organization and the group.
  2. Ensure the Contracts Department operates in full compliance with its major processes:  contract review, contract baseline management, flowdown of contract terms, order entry, change management, contract closeout and auditable, contractual records retention.  This will entail performing periodic review and compliance audits.  These audits will also address specific corporate governance requirements of Sarbanes-Oxley, as related to the contract values and contract performance reported in the Moog business system.
  3. Drive personnel development with the objectives of (1) building knowledgebase and ability to address issues integral to Space and Defense Group, including change management, risk management (including maintaining documentation related to potential customer claims, disputes and litigation) , cash collection, contract provision evaluation, contractual drafting,  and contract negotiations; (2) creating a team proficient in the laws, regulations and industry practices applicable to US Government, international and commercial procurements; (3) training the team in domestic and international contract administration, export compliance and security requirements; and (4) developing a pipeline of future Moog managers.
  4. Provide rapid and effective response to highly-charged, ambiguous situations, with limited opportunity for research or consultation.  These situations may involve potential disputes with customers.  The incumbent will be forced to develop and execute strategies based on accumulated knowledge and experience with similar situations.
  5. Collaborate with other Moog functional disciplines (Export, Import, Tax, Treasury, etc.) in managing the more complex aspects of international transactions including: VAT and tax implications, INCOTERMS, letters of credit, offset programs and export and import compliance.
  6. Provide advice to upper management regarding impact on the Group of laws and regulations including Federal Public Laws and Statues, Federal Acquisition Regulations and all Supplements, Uniform Commercial Code, International Convention on the Sale and Purchase of Goods, and EEC Product Standard Regulations.
  7. As required, contribute to the due diligence process for Moog acquisitions as related to contracting, export compliance and security.  Upon closing of the acquisition, the incumbent will assist the acquired entity with U.S. Government registrations, the transfer of export licensing, assignment of contracts and novation of Moog responsibility with respect to the acquired company’s government contracts.

Salary Range:

The base pay range for this opportunity is $175,000 - $225,000 per year.  The base salary range represents the low and high end of the Moog salary range for this position in the given work location. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including location, experience, and performance. The range(s) listed is just one component of Moog's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, employee stock purchase plan, an open paid time off policy, competitive 401K plan with enhanced matching program, and many region-specific benefits
